Over 70 Reds Storm to Final

2 Jul by Tim Conlan

Tuesday 16th June.
Over 70s Reds arrived for their league Cup outing to discover that the Whites had already qualified for finals day. Elimination now would be really embarrassing.
Not to worry. Despite losing Skipper Tongue to a recurrence of his knee injury early in the second half of the first game the other six followed the managers instructions and won their first two games, fairly comfortably, the only worries occurring when we missed a penalty and then saw the opposition go straight to the other end and scoring, thus turning a potential 3-0 into a slender 2-1 victory. Running offences finally caught up in the third game and a penalty was conceded with which debutant keeper Myers had no chance. Os hit back and Ridley got his 4th goal of the day to ensure a return of 7 points and top of the mini league. Ridley will get the plaudits but all his goals were made by fantastic through balls from the midfield trio of Skaith, Stevenson, and debutant McBride.
