Redbridge Rules OK

27 Apr by Tim Conlan

On Tuesday 21st April Leyton Orient 60's paid a visit to a sunny and warm Fairlop to play a series of friendlies against Redbridge.

Orient took a while to settle with the three-touch rule in operation and other local quirks such as penalties not given when defenders were in the area because they weren’t interfering with play and running back to prevent a goal scoring opportunity. Despite the acclimatisation, Os went in level at half time. Orient had a free kick which Rohm struck true and firm. It hit the Redbridge defender and rebounded to their striker who was on his own in the Os half. He waited to be joined before slipping the ball to a midfielder to open the scoring. Worse followed with Redbridge getting a second as the midfielder appeared to run onto the ball. Orient 0 - 2 Redbridge A

Having adjusted to the rules, they were revised for the next game with boards in play. Redbridge took an early lead. Orient responded well and fought back into the game. When the ball went high over the boards, a roll in was given. Clancy rolled the ball across the Redbridge area to find Edwards waiting to smash the ball at the underside of the crossbar, but alas it bounced down and out. Now Redbridge were questioning their own rules, though it was somewhat irrelevant as the ball did not cross the line. The second half saw an early goal for Redbridge. Orient reorganised the midfield and gained an instant result with Lillington laying the ball on a sixpence for Newman to get a goal back. Despite dominating proceedings Orient could not find a second goal. Orient 1 - 2 Redbridge B. (Newman)

Having established the rules somewhat, Orient played out a goalless first half. In the second half, Clancy turned, shot and saw the ball come off the back legs of the defender. The ball spun towards the unguarded goal with the keeper stranded on his right, but bounced off the inside of the post to the relief of Redbridge. Orient 0-0 Redbridge A

The final game was abridged as the referee had to leave dead on 3pm, so just 12 minutes. A very even game that was settled by a somewhat fortunate Redbridge goal when Freeman made an excellent save only to have the ball rebound back and the striker clip the ball over him as he was still grounded. Orient 0-1 Redbridge B
