Awards, Music And Fun

30 Nov by Trevor Ridley

Leyton Orient Walking FC held its Annual Awards evening on Saturday 29th November at the Leyton Star.

In a change from the usual sit down meal Mick Mullins, stalwart of Events organisation at the Club, had organised a buffet and musical evening.

The evening was a great success.

Phil Stevenson, Club Captain, led the audience through the awards. There were three stand-out players this season who each collected a number of awards each; Tim Conlan, Clare Kavanagh and Andrew Okocha. The first Tony Wahlhaus, Male Player of the Season award, went to Andrew Okocha.

The music was provided by three amazingly talented Club members. Nigel Mear did a solo set on acoustic guitar; Steve Skaith and Alan Cox accompanied by his bassist Joe, did an excellent comic piece that gently poked fun at several of the Club's players. Steve and Alan had written songs specially for the evening. The lyrics have been posted in the Gallery. Steve Skaith then did a set with one of the numbers promoting his upcoming gig at the Walthamstow Folk Club on Sunday December 7th. The music was rounded off with dulcet tones of Alan Cox.

This was heralded by all who attended as a huge success as both a celebration of the years achievements by teams and players as well as a showcase for the hidden talents of the membership.
