On Saturday 26th July Leyton Orient Walking FC women found themselves in Gloucester competing in the WFA Women’s over 60s National Cup.

Orient got off to an excellent start with a good defensive display to register a win against Bristol Badgers. Final score: Bristol Badgers 0 v 2 Leyton Orient (Moore, Kavanagh).

Orient the reprised their efforts in their next game against Mid Devon. Final score: Mid Devon 0 v 2 Leyton Orient (Moore 2).

Game three saw Orient drop their first points against Taunton, as they ran out of steam. This result would be significant at the end of the tournament. Final score: Taunton 1 v 1 Leyton Orient(Kavanagh).

The fourth game of the day was against the All Sorts (no they had no sweets). Orient started slowly and the opposition missed with a shot over the bar. Dowling then put Kavanagh through to score for a single goal lead at half time. This game was end to end. All Sorts hit the post twice. Kavanagh just missed the far post to extend Orient’s lead. Orient held on for another win. Final score: British All Sorts 0 v 1 Leyton Orient (Kavanagh).

Game five against Nottingham Vets was a tricky affair. Orient were three goals down by half time. Resilience and determination in the second half saw Orient fail to concede and score a consolation goal through Kavanagh. Final score: Forest Vets 3 v 1 Leyton Orient (Kavanagh).

Orient then ran out convincing winners against Bournemouth. Final score: Bournemouth 1 v 3 Leyton Orient (Kavanagh 2, Dowling).

When it came to the final league placings Orient were very unfortunate to end up joint 2nd with 13 points but missed out on the semi-finals on goal difference even though they had beaten second placed British All Sorts.
