Tim Pagan's Birthday Celebrations

8 Jun by Trevor Ridley

On Saturday, 7th June, Leyton Orient Walking FC helped run a 70th birthday celebration for Tim Pagan who briefly played for the Club. Orient fielded two teams and supported the West Ham team and Ireland team with players. The initial concern was the forecast for a major storm that was timed for the middle of the tournament. Fortunately it did not rain and the players got a full two hours football. Besides the Orient teams, the others were made up of supporters of various Clubs and nations. The teams were West Ham, Everton, Brighton and Ireland. All the visiting teams were supplemented by a few ‘youngsters’.

The games were expertly refereed by Simon Baker, Micky Howard and Phil Stevenson. There was a steady supply of penalties as some of new ‘boys’ struggled with walking.

The results:

Leyton Orient Reds 2-1 Ireland (Burns)
Leyton Orient Reds 1-1 Brighton (Tongue)
Leyton Orient Reds 0-1 Everton
Leyton Orient Reds 0-1 West Ham
Leyton Orient Whites 0-2 Brighton
Leyton Orient Whites 0-2 Everton
Leyton Orient Whites 0-1 West Ham
Leyton Orient Whites 2-0 Ireland (Kassam, Gurman)
Leyton Orient Whites 0-1 Leyton Orient Reds (Mears)

Everton won the day on goal difference, although Frank Longsworth had been signed up for the Whites after Ajit Rehal picked up an injury.

Orient Reds lost two games with the last kick of the match.

Birthday boy, Tim Pagan thanked the Club for hosting the day and the warm welcome the Orient players gave to the guests. The refereeing was praised in the Dog and Duck afterwards and hopefully a new link in Dublin established.

Leyton Orient Whites: Keith Everett (Gk), Ajit Rehal (Cpt), Hassan Kassam, Mary Kau, Ian Gurman, Kevin Bell, Paul Newman.
