On Tuesday 3rd June Leyton Orient Walking FC over 70s Reds and Whites teams made their way to Billericay FC for the third round of Essex Walking Football League over 70s fixtures. It was Leyton Orient Reds turn to kick of first in the morning session.

Orien Reds started a tough round of fixtures against Chelmsford who were second in the table one step ahead of Orient. The Reds had the best of the play in the first half until Chelmsford took the lead against the run of play. However, the Reds struck back swiftly when Skaith equalised with a shot off the post. This was a well fought game with Orient on top but they could not find a winning goal. Final score: Chelmsford Clarets 1 v 1 Leyton Orient Reds (Skaith).

Next up were league leaders Wakering. Though the Reds fashioned several chances they could not find the back of the net. Wakering took the lead with a well taken goal and had the chance to go further ahead as Orient conceded a penalty for running. However, debutante 65s keeper James went the correct way to save the penalty. Final score: Wakering 1 v 0 1 Leyton Orient Reds.

The final game saw the Reds take on Eastwood Falcons Blue. This game followed much the same pattern as those before with the Reds pressing but not getting the goals. Final score: Leyton Orient Reds 0 v 0 Eastwood Falcons.

The afternoon saw Leyton Orient Whites turn and the Whites finished the day unbeaten!

Orient White’s first game was against Norwich Black. The Whites were on the front foot from the start A well taken goal from Kassam gave them a deserved lead. After conceding a penalty for running, Everett in goal for the Whites produced a fine save to deny Norwich. Final score: Norwich Blacks 0 v 1 Leyton Orient Whites (Kassam).

Next up for the Whites was Billericay Whites. Given their dominance this was a game that the Whites should have won easily. However, in spite of going ahead with a well taken penalty from Haley, the Whites were unable to manage the game out and conceded a late running offences penalty, which was duly converted. Final score: Billericay Whites 1 v 1 Leyton Orient Whites (Haley).

The Whites final game was against Billericay Blues. This was a close game with both sides playing positive football. Defences came out on top and the game finished goalless. Final score: Leyton Orient Whites 0 v 0 Billericay Blues.

Manager Mick Mullins commented after play that, “Both the Reds and the Whites played well today. However, the Reds lost ground after disappointing results stemming from an inability to turn their chances into the goals they deserved. The Whites had a better points return today and were unbeaten. With a bit more luck they could have had three wins today. Well done to David James making his debut for the Reds in goal and to Kevin Bell and Len Cheston on their debuts for the Whites.”
