Orient Over 70s On Track!

23 Mar by Trevor Ridley

On Friday 21st March Leyton Orient Walking FC over 70s welcomed RIP Walking FC to Wadham Lodge for a return friendly fixture.

0rient fielded two teams (Reds & Whites) and the first game saw Orient Reds take on RIP. The first half was quite cagey and sides went in level. The second half was dominated by the Reds who rattled in four goals after patient and accurate play. Final score: RIP 0 v 4 Leyton Orient Reds (Ridley 2, Skaith 2).

Next it was Orient Whites turn to take on RIP. This was a close game settled by the goal of the day! A flowing move from defence to attack ended with Conlan passing to Kassam who scored with a fine finish. Final score: RIP 0 v 1 Leyton Orient Whites (Kassam).

As RIP took a break Orient Reds and Orient Whites faced off against each other. Whites took the lead as Conlan and Kassam exchanged passes with the latter scoring. Reds were awarded a penalty after a Whites defender intercepted a pass but entered the area in doing so. The resulting penalty was well saved by Everett. Reds finally equalised with a well taken Ridley goal. Final score: Leyto Orient Whites 1 v 1 Leyton Orient Reds (Kassam) (Ridley).

It was then Orient Reds turn to take on RIP again in a shortened 15 minute game. The Reds ran out winners by a single Ridley goal. Final score: RIP 0 v 1 Leyton Orient Reds (Ridley).

Leyton Orient Whites then wrapped up proceedings for the day with the final game against RIP in a similarly shortened game which ended goalless. Final score: Leyton Orient Whites 0 v 0 RIP.

After play manager Mick Mullins commented, “This was a good run out for both our sides ahead of our forthcoming Essex League fixtures. It was satisfying to see that the only goals conceded by the Reds and Whites were to one another. Games were played in a sporting manner and it was a pleasure to welcome RIP to Wadham.”

Leyton Orient Red squad: Derek Myers (Gk), Steve Tongue (Cpt), Tony Brooks, Steve Skaith, Phil Stevenson, Trevor Ridley, Gerry Schneider.

Leyton Orient White squad: Keith Everett (Gk), Chris Conlan (Cpt), Hassan Kassam, Dave Jones, Alan Lester, Frank Longsworth, Ajit Rehal.
