Orient Over 60s Bow Out For Season

16 Sep by Trevor Ridley

On Tuesday 3rd September Leyton Orient over 60s travelled to a Billericay FC bathed in sunshine for their final set of league fixtures for the 2024 season.

Leyton Orient Whites only had two games on the day and started with a tough game against Eastwood Falcons Blues. Slow start by both teams with passing poor. Falcons broke down the left and finished with a good shot saved by Everett. The O’s started to pass better and get into the game. Good passing and movement from the O’s led to a shot wide by Jacobs. Another good move resulted in a shot by Rains but too high. The O’s were now dominant but no resulting on goal attempts concluded with no score at halftime. At the start of the second half Jackson and T.Conlan replaced Jacobs and Baker. The Falcons were out of the blocks quickly at the begining of the second half. Good accurate passing and movement resulted in the Falcons forward free at the edge of the box and a goal to Eastwood. Poor marking and a slow start by the by Orient. The O’s now get into their stride and good accurate passing and movement leads to several chances from Dooley and Jackson but both were deflected wide. Orient continue to look for an equaliser but the moves break down leading to chances for the Falcons. Again this is a game Orient shouldn’t have lost. The O’s dominated most of the play and one mistake lead to the Eastwood goal. Final score: Leyton Orient 0 v 1 Eastwood Falcons.

The final game of the day and last game of the season was Beacon Hill Rovers. Orient started well and in control with good passing and movement but this didn’t lead to any chances on goal. Eventually Beacon Hill got into the game and produced some good shooting opportunities, all blocked by the Orient defence. Good forward play by Orient led to a free kick which produced a great shot by T.Conlan which was well save by Beacon Hill keeper. Orient continued pushing forward and looking for a first goal but the move breaks down leaving the Beacon Hill forward on his own who received a good pass forward from defence, shot and goal for Beacon Hill.
With Beacon Hill winning by the odd goal to nil at half time Jackson and Dooley came on for C.Conlan and Baker. Both teams got off to a poor start but Orient’s start was worse. Beacon Hill control the ball on the the half way line where a Beacon Hill midfielder shoots and scores with Everett caught on his heals. Beacon Hill were now in total control which led to several chances. Eventually the O’s brighten up which led to good shots from Jackson and Jacobs. Unfortunately another Beacon Hill breakaway leads to another goal which killed off the game. Orient played well but a few mistakes lead to the O’s demise. Final score: Leyton Orient 0 v 3 Beacon Hill Rovers.

Following play manager Steve Guerrini reflected on the season, “The season has ended with the over 60s Whites bottom of the league, but this doesn’t reflect how we have played. Too many 1-0 losses when we were well in the games. Goal scoring has been our problem as well as not having a settled squad and lack of goal keepers.
Thank you to all the over 65’s and 70’s who helped me put out teams for the season. I’m disappointed that the over 60’s players from Fridays and Tuesdays sessions didn’t put their names down to play. But, perhaps they were working and unable to get the time off.”

There was no report for Leyton Orient over 60s Reds who played on the same day.
