Leyton Orient Women’s Walking Football team participated in the challenging finals day of the WFA Women’s National tournament in Nottingham, demonstrating determination and skill throughout.

Orient’s opening match against Northwest Lions was a competitive affair. Leyton Orient created numerous chances, with the team working well together. However, they couldn’t find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Williams was outstanding, making crucial saves to keep the scoreline level. Final score: Leyton Orient 0 v 0 Northwest Lions.

The second match proved to be a tough challenge against a strong Bolton side. Despite Leyton Orient’s best efforts to hold off their opponents, with Williams again limiting Bolton’s opportunities, the opposition managed to break through. The match ended in a defeat but with a scoreline that didn’t fully reflect Leyton Orient’s resilience. Final score: Leyton Orient 0 v 3 Bolton.

Leyton Orient bounced back in their third game, delivering a solid performance against Sleaford. The team displayed excellent play, creating opportunities and maintaining a strong defense. The match ended in a goalless draw, with both teams showing their strengths. Final score: Leyton Orient 0 v 0 Sleaford.

Leyton Orient found their stride in the fourth game against Norwich. The team’s persistence paid off with great play throughout the match. A well-worked move resulted in Selner scoring the winning goal, giving Leyton Orient their first victory of the tournament. Final score: Norwich 0 v 1 Leyton Orient (Selner).

The penultimate match saw Leyton Orient take on Bournemouth in a closely contested game. Baker’s fantastic goal, the result of some excellent link-up play, gave Leyton Orient the lead. Bournemouth responded with increased pressure, and despite a brilliant save from Williams, they managed to equalise. Final score: Bournemouth 1 v 1 Leyton Orient (Baker).

In the final match of the tournament, Leyton Orient faced a strong Plymouth Argyle side. The match was hard-fought, with Leyton Orient putting in a valiant effort that unsettled their opponents. Great play from James, Dowling and Kavanagh unfortunately was not enough to limit Plymouth Argyle who capitalised on two chances, resulting in a two goal loss for Leyton Orient. Final score: Leyton Orient 0 v 2 Plymouth Argyle.

Throughout the tournament, Leyton Orient Women’s Walking Football team showcased their teamwork, defensive solidity, tenacious midfield and resilience. Williams’ goalkeeping was a standout, and the team should be proud of their performance against tough opposition only being beaten by the eventual finalists.
