John Austin RIP

24 Apr by Trevor Ridley

This week the Club heard the sad news that John Austin passed away on holiday in Antigua.

John came to the Club through his friend from school and fellow Leyton Orient supporter Steve Tongue in 2019. He attended regularly on Fridays.

He made his debut for the Club in 2021 and was a member of the successful over70s squad that won the Mallorca Trophy in 2022 playing in the qualifying round. In that tournament the Club were ravaged by injuries and John bravely turned out for the over 50s marking players 20 years his junior.

Soon after the Mallorca trip, John had a heart attack and retired from playing although he periodically visited the Friday session.

He made 16 appearances for the Club.

John remained a passionate Leyton Orient supporter and was a regular on the Supporters Club sun lounge discussing the latest Orient news.

The Club will hold a minute’s applause at the Tuesday, Thursday morning and Friday sessions from w/c 29 April.

Further details about his funeral will be circulated when known.
