Mary Mullins

23 Apr by Trevor Ridley

The Club has been passed the sad news that Mary passed away on Sunday surrounded by her family.

Mary had been battling cancer since autumn 2022. During this period, she was unable to play or attend sessions. She attended the Christmas Award evening in December and was in sparkling form.

Mary was one of the original founder players of the women’s team attending the first ever session in September 2019. She played in the first competitive game later that year scoring her first goal. From the match report: ‘Eventually the pressure told and a through ball found Mullins in space who turned and slotted the ball past the West Ham keeper’

She was a regular at the weekly training sessions and in the team that played in tournaments.
She was one of the women walking football players that came to organised football later in life having only played at home or on holiday. She was an energetic and enthusiastic player who was improving all the time. She played many games as a lone striker and was adapting to learn a more defensive role. She played an important role in developing the team spirit in the squad through helping organise social events and her commitment to the Club has been sorely missed.

Mary played 57 games for the Club, scoring 2 goals.

Our thoughts go out to Mick and the family at this difficult time.

Appreciation and minutes applause will take place at all sessions in the week commencing the 29 April.

The Club will pass on funeral arrangements when they have been received.
