Orient Women Flying In New Herts League

The new Herts Women’s Walking Football League kicked off on Sunday 17th March 2024 at Cheshunt Football Club with Leyton Orient playing four games of eighteen minutes each.

First up was Football Fitness Phoenix. After a slow start Orient took the lead with a well taken goal by Handley. Playing good football and in total control a freak own goal was conceded by goalkeeper Williams. Fresh legs in the second half saw Orient home after a fine strike by Ahlstrom. Final score: Football Fitness Phoenix 1 v 2 Leyton Orient (Handley, Ahlstrom)

The second game was against Cheshunt Eagles. Two well matched teams contested a tight game. Orient contained Eagles and there were few chances. Late in the game Ahlstrom had a great chance in a one on one situation with the goalkeeper but unfortunately was unable to score. Final score: Cheshunt Eagles 0 v 0 Leyton Orient.

Orient’s penultimate game was against Oxford Utd. Orient were now into their stride. Selner and Handley scored a pair of excellent goals. Final score: Oxford Utd 0 v 2 Leyton Orient (Handley, Selner).

The final game against North London Utd (formerly Tottenham or Spurs). Orient took the game to the opposition and missed so many chances it seemed destined for a goalless draw until up stepped Ahlstrom with an unstoppable shot. Final score: North London Utd 0 v 1 Leyton Orient (Alhstrom).

After play manager Sherrille Hyatt enthused, “An excellent day of football. In conclusion four games played, three wins and one draw with five goals scored and one against with Orient sitting second in the league. The team really out did themselves.”
