Keeping Connected - Week Seventeen

14 Jul 2020 by Trevor Ridley

It seems as if the whole of grassroots football is currently holding it’s breath. The FA have put in their comprehensive action plan and related guidance for Government approval and will confirm timing as soon as they are able. This means that our training sessions will continue as they are.

The Committee met last Tuesday morning via Zoom and are looking at various venues with astro 3G to get our training sessions back onto a better playing surface. If possible the Club are looking to move to this new venue in early August.

This week it was really nice to hear from Paul Browne, one of our ex-players. Keith Everett had injured his ankle while out running so couldn’t make training last week but should be fit enough to join us again this Wednesday.

There are three birthdays to celebrate this week: Tim Pagan, Sherrille Hyatt, who played for Leyton Orient Women’s team in the 2001-02 season, and Mr Safe Hands himself, Tony Weston who will now be eligible to play for the over 60s. Wishing you all the Very Happiest of Birthdays.

Monday night was again Quiz Night hosted by Graham Manicom. This week Caroline and John Bancroft reclaimed their champion’s crown beating Mary and Mick Mullins in second place. Julian Lillington had started strongly but faded into third. Next week’s Monday Night Quiz is going to have a guest Quiz Master as Phil Stevenson will be posing the questions. Pop along to the Events to join up.

Zoom meet-ups are still happening every Friday between 11am and 12 noon. All are welcome.

This week, given Tony has reached the big six zero, I thought the following quotes would not go amiss:

“A few years ago, I got to a point where I realised that the only way you can tell someone’s age is how they live their life. The candles on the cake mean absolutely nothing.” – Rob Lowe

And

“With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come.” – William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice, Act 1, Scene 1. Gratiano

Take care, be safe and see you soon.
