Keeping Connected - Week Thirteen

16 Jun 2020 by Trevor Ridley

This is the week it all changes – TRAINING IS BACK.

After much debate about the where, when and how, a reduced format of training starts tomorrow, Wednesday 17th June almost exactly three months after the Club’s last training session on Friday 13th March. Both Wednesday’s sessions are fully booked as we take a tentative step into the unknown. If successful and manageable the Club will look to increase the number of groups per session. We are also aware of the difficulties of travelling to Chingford Rugby Club and the Club is monitoring communications from GLL, who run Ive Farm, with a view to getting back there as soon as possible.

Due to both sessions being over subscribed on Wednesday 17th June, those who have not made it onto the attendance lists for either of the two sessions will be given priority for the following week’s sessions. Session player allocations will be posted in each session Event in the App. Please only turn up at your confirmed, nominated session and then only ten minutes before the session is scheduled to start. The Club has put together a list of Rules and Restrictions which everyone must adhere to so we can ensure the safety of all participants. The Rules and Restrictions are attached – click the paperclip to access them.

Before the start of lockdown and before the cancellation of all sessions, Len had been in contact with Leyton Orient Fans Trust (LOFT) about the possibility of a grant toward a kit for the Women’s team. We have now heard that LOFT have allocated a grant of £200 toward the purchase of a Women’s kit. This is extremely generous of LOFT and shows their commitment to support Women’s football. This week we only have one birthday celebration to mark and that’s Peter Costello – Many Happy Returns Peter.

Last night saw yet another excellent quiz put on by Graham Manicom. With question categories ranging from Cooking to Music and Famous Places to Sport the eventual winners were none other than Caroline and John Bancroft with a mighty 41 points. They were closely followed into second place by ‘Safe-hands’ Tony Weston. Our thanks to Graham Manicom for organising another enjoyable evenings entertainment.

Remember that Zoom meet-ups are every Friday between 11am and 12 noon. To sign up just pop over to the Zoom Meet-Up Event in the App and RSVP.

We are also continuing to run Ruth Tongue’s Pilates sessions on a Thursday morning between 11am and 12 noon. Again pop over to the Events section for all the details.

Finally, as we all get ready to start to get ourselves back to peak fitness I found the following somewhat amusing:

“At age 20, we worry about what others think of us. At age 40, we don’t care what they think of us. At age 60, we discover they haven’t been thinking of us at all.” – Ann Landers (1918-2002)

And

“The wisdom of age: don’t stop walking.” – Mason Cooley

Take care, be safe and see you soon.
