First Night Success

18 Sep 2019 by Trevor Ridley

An initiative between Leyton Orient Trust and Leyton Orient Walking FC to encourage women to take up walking football had it’s first session on Tuesday evening, 17th September. Aimed at women over 40 of any footballing skill level it was hoped that this taster session would attract at least a handful along for a light work out followed by a kick about.

The organisers expectations were more than met with sixteen turning up on the night. There was a range of abilities, from complete beginners to one or two who had played before, and a range of ages, from 40 to 67 years old. The one thing they all had in common was their willingness to take part, have fun and enjoy the evening.

From talking to the participants at the end of the evening it was clear that the majority who attended would come along to regular sessions of walking football. The main request was that the sessions be run in the evening. Leyton Orient Walking Football Club will be looking into how this can be arranged and what evening would suite the majority of attendees.

In the mean time Leyton Orient Trust are running a Thursday afternoon (1pm to 2pm) Women’s Walking Football sessions at Score, 100 Oliver Road, Leyton. There will be ten sessions running from 19th September until 21 November. All sessions are FREE and will be followed by tea and biscuits.
